Jakarta, 13 April 2021 - Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) collaborates with China ENFI Engineering Corporation (ENFI) as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding on the Copper Smelting Project. ENFI is a state-owned company registered in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, and is a subsidiary of the MCC Group in the business of providing smelter technology, building smelter industries, particularly copper, nickel, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals.
BKPM Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia welcomes and appreciates China ENFI for its interest in investing in the copper smelter industry which is planned to be built in Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province with the hope that the signing of this memorandum of understanding will be followed up soon to create mutually beneficial cooperation. In addition, Bahlil also stated the seriousness of the Indonesian government in supporting the investment plan and ensuring the availability of a minimum supply of raw materials to be provided by PT Freeport Indonesia of at least 800,000 tons/year. This project is in line with the President’s direction regarding economic transformation by increasing the added value and exports of Indonesia to the world.
BKPM and ENFI will work together to assist and support investment plans and copper smelting development in Indonesia. The copper smelting capacity is 400,000 tons per year Copper Cathode will be divided into two phases. In this project, the company will involve local Indonesian companies as strategic partners, namely PT Freeport Indonesia and MIND ID.
